About Dr. Bibhas R Kundu

Dr. Bibhas Ranjan Kundu graduated from Burdwan Medical College in 1985 with several distinctions. He secured the highest marks in Surgery, Opthalmology, ENT, Pharmacology - holding University Gold Medales in these subjects.

He was adjudged the best graduate of the batch securing highest marks in the university in Second and Final MBBS exam.

He also secured the 1st position in MS General Surgery from Calcutta University securing University Gold Medal in 1989.

Dr. Kundu also won the Anungo Mohan Gold Medal from Association of Surgeons of India (West Bengal) for obtaining highest marks in MS General Surgery from Medical College, Calcutta

Dr. Kundu obtained the FRCS from Royal College of England and Diploma in Urology from London University.

Dr. Kundu trained in the UK at various hospitals including the prestigious Guy's Hospital under the legendary Urologist John Wickham where he was a collaborator and Associate Lecturer in the famous Guy's Hospital Robotics Project with Imperial College of Science & Technology London. This was the first ever attempt to create a robot to perform Prostate operation and results were presented at British Association of Urologist meeting in Edinburgh 1996.

Dr. Kundu was also in charge of the Lithotriptor Unit in London Clinic at Devonshire Place where Extra Corporeal Lithotripsy was offered as a modality of Kidney stone treatment in mid nineties.

Dr. Kundu returned back to India and joined Calcutta Medical Research Institute in 1997 as a Consultant Uro Surgeon. He later in 1997 developed the LASER Unit at CMRI with State of the arts Laser in Renal Stones and Prostate surgery. He introduced Laser Surgery in Eastern India in 2007 in collaboration with Prof Andreas Gross of Hamburg, Germany.

He was 5 times the live national faculty demonstrating use of Laser in Prostatic diseases.

He developed the department of Urology and represented the Hospital in various papers and presentations in the Urology Society of India.
